FAQ

Please note that the hire contract is entered into on the basis of the terms & conditions. The FAQ section gives an overview of those terms & conditions, but should there be any difference betweeen them, the terms & conditions will always apply.

Hire rates

Hire rates include:

  • Unlimited mileage;
  • UK standard vehicle insurance for one driver 25-70 years;
  • UK standard breakdown cover;
  • Complimentary welcome pack.

Prices are shown in the Tariffs section.

Insurance

The standard insurance includes an excess of £750. In any damage to either the vehicle or third party property, the hirer will be liable for the first £750. In addition, the hirer will be liable for any damage to tyres or windscreen. If Highland Classic Campers incur additional insurance charges to cover circumstances of a individual hirer, there will be passed on to that hirer.

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)

Optionally, CDW at £15 per day can be chosen, which will reduce the excess for any damage to the vehicle or third party property to zero. However, this does not cover tyre or windscreen damage. CDW applies per claim, not per rental.

Security Deposit

There is a security deposit of £750, payable by credit card. This is fully refundable when the vehicle is returned to the agreed location, on time and in the condition it was let. The vehicle should have a full tank of petrol and the interior should be clean.

A charge of £20-40 will be made for refuelling and a charge of £50, should the vehicle require cleaning.

A late return charge will be made if the vehicle is returned after the agreed time. This will be £100 for each full or part day that the vehicle is late. This is necessary because the van may be required for another hirer starting their holiday.

Please note that the deductions above are illustrative only.

GB Travel Only
The vehicle can only be used within Great Britain

Drivers

Due to insurance conditions, all drivers must be between 25 and 70 years old and drivers must have held a full UK/EU  licence for more than two years. If you hold a licence from outwith the UK /EU we can check with our insurers if you are covered with our policy. For instance it is unlikely that there will be a problem with licenses from Australia/New Zealand. We apologise to those this excludes.

The booking form asks for details of recent motoring offences and accidents. These do not exclude drivers from hiring the vans, but under the terms of our insurance, we must check them. Where our insurance policy does not cover a particular hirer’s circumstances, we will seek approval for that hirer from our insurance company. If this results in an additional premium for that hire, then we will pass that cost on to the hirer.

All drivers must produce a valid driver’s licence.  A maximum of three drivers are allowed. There is a charge of £5 per day for each additional driver. This may be higher if the additional driver incurs higher insurance charges. All drivers must show one additional piece of photo identification.

Drivers are personally liable for any legal penalties that are incurred during the hire.

One-Way Rentals

The vehicle must be returned to the location from which it was collected.

Vehicle Maintenance
While we will make every effort to provide the vans in good working order, we cannot accept liability for any costs arising from a vehicle breakdown. Should this occur, please contact us immediately and we will do our very best to deal with the problem. The vehicle hire includes roadside assistance.

The hirer is responsible for maintaining the oil levels in the camper during the hire.

Should any small repairs (wiper blades etc.) become necessary, the hirer may spend up to  £50 and we will reimburse this when a valid receipt for work or parts is produced.
